Show Notes

This week the theme is New York, a city none of us have ever visited. There's a massive range of songs about NY, so we had a lot to choose from, but the show ended up being one of the most aggressive we've done to date, with a lot of short, loud n' fast numbers.

WR355: Shadez

It's a sit-down in a bar with the three MCs behind one of the city's iconic rap groups. The legendary [Shadez](http://www.instagram.com/shadesofblack_204/) are celebrating the [20th anniversary of their 'Comprehension' album](http://soundcloud.com/lenbowenmusic/shadez-ov-blac-comprehension-xx-anniversary-edition-mixed-by-dj-swift), and they talked about the good old days of their '90s heyday, the way the scene has changed, re-visiting these songs two decades later, and a lot more. Note: Since this was recorded in a bar, there's some shitty background noise that means the sound quality isn't amazing. It improves somewhat after the first few minutes (mainly due to moving the recorder), so please bear with it. One of the hazards of the have-mic-will-travel gig. Definitely a crucial interview despite that, though. This episode is brought to you by our friends at [the Park Theatre](http://myparktheatre.com/) and by [Demedash Effect](http://www.demedasheffects.com/)s, a local company that makes hand-made guitar effect pedals like the glorious T-120 Videotape Echo. Thanks to everyone who has supported the podcast thus far. Thanks to supporters like you, we can keep churning out interviews twice a week! WR216: The Little Mix-Up live at The Roslyn

On Jan. 22, we hung out at historic Osborne Village apartment block The Roslyn with our new friends The Village Idiots to try a really fun live experiment. The show, which we're calling "The Little Mix-Up" was a livestreamed preview of this Sunday's Big Mix-Up Allstars show. It followed the usual Mix-Up "Whose Line is it Anyway? but for music" format, but instead of audience members yelling out genres of music and song topics, they made their requests online via Facebook Live. For the show, we enlisted Tim Haverluck (of The Tims) on guitar and vocals, Darryl Reilly (of Guerrillas of Soul) on sax, and Kumaran Reddy of Cilly Cyb Fung High on bass. They deftly tackled suggestions from "reggae/McDonald's menu" to "bluegrass/narcolepsy" and a lot more. This is a collab we'd absolutely like to do again, and incorporating video (of some kind) into our future projects is starting to seem like a must-do in 2017. ...
